Drainage
Water Drainage
Water is obviously a necessary element for the existence of life. However, it can also be a problem if it is not managed well. This is especially true around the house. Water leftover from a rain storm can be damaging to the house and property, if it is not drained properly. With lawn care proper drainage is very important. Just like the plumbing of a house or building, drainage is an integral part of its existence. This will become very apparent during and after a rainstorm. There are 3 basic types of drainage systems used commonly these days. These include the slope drain, French drain and downspout drain.
Slope Drainage
The slope drain as the name suggests achieves drainage by using a slope system. It is used to direct water away from the building and property. In other words, it achieves this by letting water flow naturally down a slope. This type of drainage is installed by anchoring a metal or plastic pipe in a slope.
French drains are some of the most commonly used drainage systems. This type is used mostly on areas that are more flat. It is done by installing pipes around the building to direct the water away from it. The idea is to keep the water away from the foundation as well as the landscape. When French drainage systems are installed, shallow yet large holes will need to be dug. The process is not very difficult, therefore homeowners can do these themselves, provided proper tools and equipment are bought or rented.
Downspout Drainage
The downspout drain is another commonly used drainage system. This type can be found on most houses and buildings. It is done by connecting gutters around the edge of the roof. The idea is to collect the water flowing from the roof and then send it down a pipe. The pipes as well as the gutter can be rectangular or round shape. Copper, aluminum and steel are used to make this type of drainage system. However, copper downspout drainage systems are the costliest. On the other hand they will last the longest. This type of drainage comes in different colors. White colored are the most commonly used ones.
Other types of drains include shower drains, floor drains, condensate drains, sink drains, trench drainage etc. The bottom line is that no matter what type of drainage system is installed, it should be done by a qualified professional. Even if a plumber does not actually do the job, his advice should be sought before installing. Drainage that is not working properly can make life hell for anybody
